The Purdue Pegboard Test is a hand dexterity assessment used by occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and neuropsychologists. It measures motor dexterity and hand-eye coordination through a series of timed tasks using pins, collars and washers on a pegboard.
The board has two parallel rows of 25 holes, with cups at the top to hold the testing components. Subjects complete five subtests using their right hand, then their left hand, then using both hands. Three of the tasks run for 30 seconds and one assembly task runs for 60 seconds.
Scores are recorded and compared against percentile norms based on age and gender. The assessment takes between 15 and 30 minutes and is used in rehabilitation, occupational health screening and neuropsychological evaluation.
